The Government of Piauí announced, this Monday (12), the g of a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese state-owned company CGN (China General Nuclear Power Group) – one of the largest energy companies in the country.
The agreement foresees investments exceeding R$3 billion for the expansion of the company's business in renewable energy projects in the State, with a focus on solar, wind and energy storage sources.
CGN has been operating in Piauí since 2019, with projects in Ribeira do Piauí (solar energy) and Lagoa do Barro (wind energy). Now, the company has presented plans to expand these operations, with the installation of new plants totaling more than 1,4 GW in installed capacity.
Among the highlights of the new projects is the implementation of an energy storage system and the development of a pilot project for thermosolar generation – a technology that converts energy from solar radiation into electricity in a differentiated way, reinforcing the state's pioneering role in the area of clean energy.
