A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) applied, this Tuesday (03), another million-dollar fine to a distributor in the electricity sector — the third in less than two weeks.
The company penalized this time was Equatorial Piauí, fined R$10,5 million for irregularities in the provision of energy distribution services.
The decision was unanimously approved by the Agency's board of directors, after a report highlighted serious flaws in consumer service and in the continuity of electricity supply in the state.
According to ANEEL, the company presented unsatisfactory performance in indicators such as duration and frequency of interruptions in supply, in addition to problems in customer service channels.
Before this, two other distributors had already been recently punished by the Agency: CEEE Equatorial and RGE Sul — both operating in Rio Grande do Sul. The penalties were applied on May 20.
Together, the two companies received fines totaling more than R$80 million, motivated by failures during the extreme weather events that hit the state in May.

In the case of RGE, the ANEEL classified the distributor's performance as “inadequate”, considering the delay in restoring power and the lack of communication with consumers. CEEE Equatorial, in turn, was punished for operational deficiencies and failures in contingency protocols.
In addition to financial sanctions, the Agency It also required companies to present corrective action plans, focusing on improving the quality of the service provided.
