The State of Bahia will be home to a solar glass factory focused on the production of high-performance photovoltaic s.

The announcement of the project, entitled Transparent Brazil, was made this Monday (9), during an event at the headquarters of FIEB (Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia), in Salvador (BA).

The initiative will be led by Homerun Brasil, in partnership with CBPM (Companhia Baiana de Pesquisa Mineral), and will use high-purity silica – a raw material found exclusively in Bahian soil.

The solar glass factory will be installed in the municipality of Belmonte (BA) and will receive an investment of R$1,8 billion. The inauguration date, however, has not yet been announced.

In addition to the construction of the factory, the project includes a series of sustainable actions, such as:

  • Use of clean energy in the production process;
  • Water reuse;
  • Waste minimization;
  • Creation of an education fund for qualification;
  • Productive inclusion of the local population.

For the president of CBPM, Henrique Carballal, the project has the potential to insert Bahia into the international scenario of the solar energy industry.

“It is a great opportunity to bring to Bahia a high-tech industry like this, which is revolutionizing the energy transition. There is no salvation for the world without an energy transition,” he said.

During the event, the president of FIEB, Carlos Henrique os, also highlighted the relevance of the investment for the regional economy.

“This investment is of interest not only to the mining production chain, but also to Bahia’s energy production chain as a whole,” said the executive.

Homerun CEO Brian Leeners reinforced the positive impact that the project should generate on the solar market as a whole, including the energy storage segment.

“This project is the result of a lot of work and energy invested in recent years. The integration of our business into the Bahian industry is essential,” he highlighted.
