The search for the production of green hydrogen in Brazil comes attracting the attention of hundreds of multinationalsWith the country totaling more than US$30 billion in projects already announced and a technical potential for annual production of the order of 1,8 gigatonsAccording estimates of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). 

Potential size, caused the country to update, for example, at the end of last year, the goals of PNH2 – the so-called National Triennial Plan for 2023-2025 – with the aim of including some items that would help promote the development of green hydrogen.

The first of them aims to disseminate pilot plants in the national territory until 2025, while the second intends consolidate Brazil as the most competitive country in the world in the production of renewable fuel by 2030. 

A third item also provides consolidate low-carbon hydrogen hubs across the country by 2035, bringing together producers and consumers, energy generators, and input distribution and transport logistics.

Furthermore, the MME also prioritized the approval of a Legal Framework for green hydrogen, aiming to bring more legal security to the segment, expand project financing capacity and quintuple investments in research and innovation.

Em exclusive interview granted to Canal Solar, Ricardo Gedra, market analysis and information manager CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), commented on a very important point for the promotion of this market to occur in the country.

According to him, this is the need of interested companies in the production of renewable gas get certifications that attest to the quality of the product developed in national territory. 

During the conversation, the executive revealed that there are still few green hydrogen projects being developed in Brazil and that only two of them are certified. 

He also said that for now, There is no certification in the country that allows the fuel to be sold on the domestic market, only for export in Europe.
