When sunlight hits these cells, it stimulates the movement of electrons in the semiconductor material. Since this energy is generated by solar radiation, on rainy days there is a risk of not having enough sun to generate the amount of hot water necessary for your purposes.

In situations like the one described above, solar heaters, which have an electric resistance or a gas heater, guarantee the ideal water temperature so that it is ready for use.

Unlike the photovoltaic system that converts the sun's radiation into electrical energy, the solar thermal system absorbs radiation and transforms it into thermal energy.

The transformation of the sun into thermal energy can also be carried out by modules and, depending on the purpose of heating, it is possible to replace conventional cells with collectors (plates).

One of the main challenges is the need for supplementation during periods of low solar incidence, which can lead to the burning of petroleum derivatives to maintain the heat supply. This process generates pollutant gas emissions, partially reducing the positive environmental impact of the technology.

Furthermore, the operation of some thermal power plants can impact the heating of river water, altering the ecological balance and affecting aquatic fauna and flora.

Another relevant factor is the high cost associated with purchasing fossil fuels to supplement heat generation, especially in periods of low sunlight.

This additional expense can compromise the economic viability of the system in certain applications, making it essential to seek more sustainable alternatives to guarantee its efficiency in the long term.

heliothermal solar energy

Solar thermal energy, or concentrated solar energy, is also one of the types of solar energy. It is a renewable source that uses mirrors or lenses to direct and concentrate solar radiation at a single point.

This process generates heat, which is later converted into electricity by means of a turbine. This technology is widely used in large-scale power plants.

Benefits

Solar thermal energy stands out as a renewable and inexhaustible source of energy, taking advantage of solar radiation to generate electricity in a sustainable way.

Unlike other solar technologies, this system allows the concentration of large amounts of sunlight in a single point, generating heat with high efficiency.
